Doctor Who Orphan 55 review

[Slight Spoilers for episode 12x03 Orphan 55]

I had low expectations for this episode. Coming right from the heels of the experimental two parter that was Spyfall, I didn’t expected too much for the second story. Which is starting to become the norm for this era of Doctor Who. I expected better wigs though.

The Story

Graham managed to collect coupons for a vacation, which most of Team TARDIS take full advantage of, in part due to noticing the Doctor’s mood, which isn’t the nice version we’ve been used to. With all of the coupons inside a box, the Team are transported instantly into Tranquility, a spa resort, on a orphan planet. While what they had in mind was a vacation, that turned out to not be the case, given it’s not in audio format. And even then…

With the large group we had for this story, there was a lot of side stories that couldn’t be expanded up given the time constraints. There was a bit of a unconventional love story there with Benni and Vilma, a harsh family drama with Belle and her mother Kane, another family drama with Nevi and Sylas, and, of course, the hidden dangers of Tranquility with Hyp3n.

The Characters

Team TARDIS gets a couple bits of development, more notable with Ryan’s side plot with one of the guest character…
