I gave a speech about the History of Channel Awesome

To anyone who has ever presented before, have you ever had the chance to stand up in front of a room, and just talk for several minutes? Seeing all the eyes upon you, while you have to navigate going through the points that you were trying to make. I went through it a few weeks ago.

My first ever speech. Well, in a sense. I had try to give a speech before for a class, in Spanish. I completely forgot the topic, but I remember a lot of the feeling of being embarrassed.

I did find someway of making it a bit more palpable for me.

I:

  • Found a topic I knew of for several years (Channel Awesome’s History)
  • Made sure I had enough research to get the point I wanted across (In this case, condensing about 11 years of history in less than 7 minutes)
  • Cutting down most of that information to the bare essentials for me to get my point across

I had about two weeks to try and prepare my speech, right? All that matters is to get my point together, making sure to not memorized the whole danged speech in order not to flub.

Sure, I know a lot of the history. I watched a lot of the big points of the site unfold before my eyes. But, time wasn’t on my side this time. When I had first done the trial run…
