If you are a fan of musical shows, wonderful character exploration, and Skylar Astin, chances are you’ve heard about Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
First aired in January 2020, the first season of this show explores how Zoey Clarke, as played by Jane Levy, who, after she received the power to explore people’s inner thoughts with the power of song, referred to as “Heart songs” on the show, navigates her life at SPRQpoint as a coder with a team of people, including her best friend Max, as played by Skylar, her other coworkers Leif as played by Michael Thomas Grant, Tobin as played by Kapil Talwalkar, and Simon, as played by John Clarence Stewart. Her next-door neighbor Mo, as played by the always fantastic Alex Newell, helps her along the way as her confidant and later friend, for most of the show.
The show also navigates Zoey’s family life, with her mother Maggie as played by Mary Steenburgen, her brother as played by Andrew Leeds, and her stepsister as played by Alice Lee. The relationship with her and her father Mitch, as played by Peter Gallagher is one of the most important parts of the show. Due to having Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Mitch lost muscular functions and the ability to speak. When Zoey first received her powers, she found that she could hear him through the heart songs.
